U-M links with MidMichigan Health bear fruit to benefit patients

Less than a year ago, the U-M Health System signed an affiliation agreement with MidMichigan Health, which has hospitals and clinics across the middle of the state’s lower peninsula. Already, patients are getting the benefit of this new alliance, including a new heart failure clinic developed in conjunction with U-M’s Cardiovascular Center, and closer cooperation on the treatment of cancer patients.

Now, MidMichigan Health doctors have joined an effort led by U-M to improve the care of people covered by Medicare across Michigan. They, and all U-M doctors, have joined an Accountable Care Organization called POM ACO that also include doctors from 22 counties. Together, they’ll work to give traditional Medicare participants better and more coordinated care, and to make the most of taxpayer dollars.
