Special lecture: A Water Distribution Disaster

The tragedy of the Flint water crisis has gripped the state and nation, shining a light on the inadequacies in our aging infrastructure. U-M Flint’s Dr. Martin Kaufman explains what led to the Flint water disaster, how to recover from it, and ways to use the city as a model for addressing the infrastructure emergency we now face.

Dr. Martin Kaufman, is leading efforts to map Flint’s lead pipe network as the city seeks ways to quickly remediate its aged and damaged infrastructure, will share the challenges faced by older communities with respect to lead (Pb) contamination in their water supply, and the infrastructure modifications required to minimize the risks from lead.
