Family from Quincy benefits from 2-minute screening test now required for all newborns in Michigan

A Quincy-area family was among the first in the state to benefit from the two-minute screening test now required for all newborns in Michigan, intended to help catch critical congenital heart defects that show no symptoms before birth.

Minutes before being discharged from Hillsdale Community Health Center, baby Payton failed the test – which led to her diagnosis of an undetected heart defect and subsequent heart surgery at U-M’s C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital.
