Dangerous currents project collaboration leads to safer beaches

U-M’s Michigan Sea Grant and Michigan State University Extension participated in the 2015 Dangerous Currents Coastal Storms project meeting at the annual Great Lakes Beach Association and Biennial State of Lake Michigan Joint Conference in Traverse City.

Michigan Sea Grant provided an update on efforts in Michigan with the Dangerous Currents project. Those efforts included the coordination of the Great Lakes Water Safety conference in Gaylord that included participants from local coastal communities and state agencies.

A Great Lakes Water Safety Consortium has now been formed that will involve national, regional and local organizations working together to reduce drownings.
