U-M student project inspires home sharing in Traverse City, Charlevoix

Two northern Michigan cities are using a new tool to help address the shortage of affordable housing, thanks to a group of students at the U-M School of Information.

A project developed by students in UMSI’s Citizen Interaction Design course in Fall 2016 to address housing concerns in Northwest Michigan has been adopted in the cities of Charlevoix and Traverse City.

The project was part of Michigan Engaging Community through the Classroom, an interdisciplinary University of Michigan initiative. MECC had an affordable housing project in Traverse City at the time, and introduced the CID students to Networks Northwest.
