U-M leaders talk defense funding with Northern Michigan residents

University of Michigan leaders are working with Northern Michigan residents to help identify ways to mitigate the economic damage caused by defense downsizing across the Upper Peninsula.

Recent discussions have focused on the university-led Defense Manufacturing Assistance Program, which has supports many communities and companies across Michigan, Ohio and Indiana that have been impacted by decreases in defense supply-chain positions.

Northern Michigan residents have shown great interest in partnering with DMAP, in part, because it provides eligible communities and companies with funding to help generate diversification plans so they are more resilient and can attract new business, while retaining and growing existing enterprises.
